we got the ethernet cable and connected them. does each xbox need a game?

Each system in a system link requires it’s own copy of the game to play, these systems don’t allow ’sharing’ of games to play system link matches. Also something else to keep in mind about MW2, you can only have 1 person per console while connected to another console, so you won’t be able to play 8 person matches without 8 consoles and everything else needed to play with that number of systems.
Each console needs there own copy of Call of duty mw2, in order to do a successful system link.
